Following these tips will ensure a fun and safe spring break.
Each year, more than 1.5 million students go on spring break, the peak travel season that poses many risks for both college-aged men and women. The truth is that spring break can lead to very nasty behavior such as sexual assault, alcohol poisoning, serious injury, and much more. Being safe doesn’t mean you can’t have fun—on the contrary, staying safe will ensure you have fun (and are able to remember it). Here are 3 spring break safety tips to help both drinkers, and non-drinkers alike.
- The Buddy System – We’re not joking here, just like the buddy system worked for Butters and Cartman, so too can it work for you. We would recommend not leaving your buddy alone at a party, and especially not leaving the party without them. If, however, duty calls, make sure to get the most details about where they’re going, and vice-versa.
- Make sure to know the name and address of your hotel. This is especially important if you don’t speak the language! Always bring a hotel business card you can give to the certified cab driver when you go out just in case you have 1 or 7 too many beers and can’t remember the name or address.
- Arrive safely – Death rates are three times greater than during the day. If you’re planning on driving this spring break, make sure to take frequent breaks. If night driving can’t be avoided, have at least one person to talk with the driver. It’ll keep everyone much safer.
