How to Prevent Frozen Pipes in Your Home or Business

Frozen pipes can cause big problems.  It is going to be very cold for the next 24 hours and that is when we often have lots of frozen/broker water pipes.  Here are a few tips that might prevent you from having a potential water loss to your home or business.

  • Place insulated faucet covers over your outdoor faucets. Lowe’s is well stocked with these.
  • Open you cabinet doors beneath your sinks in order to let the warm air circulate around the pipes.
  • If your sink or bathroom plumbing is in an exterior wall, you may also want to set the water to drip thru the night as to keep the water flowing.  Make sure your sink drains properly first.

If you have a second home or a business that will be unoccupied during the cold weather, it is a good idea to shut off the water to your home (outside shut off),  If not, make sure you leave the heat on and cabinet doors open.
